A new poll finds a large plurality of Americans now opposed to President Obama’s harsh policy toward Israel.

The respected Quinnipiac University poll, carried out between April 14 and April 19, asked Americans a variety of questions about Obama’s foreign policy positions.

Overall, 48% of Americans approve of the Obama administration’s foreign policy, while 42% disapprove. The breakdown is similar on specific questions: 44 to 43 in favor of his handling of Iran, 49 to 39 in favor of his handling of Afghanistan, 49 to 41 in favor of his handling of terrorism, 48 to 37 in favor of his nuclear weapons policy.

But when it comes to Israel, the numbers change – dramatically.

Asked if they approve or disapprove of “the way Barack Obama is handling the situation between Israel and the Palestinians?,” 44% disapprove and only 35% approve.

It is clear that the disapproval emanates primarily from those who feel Obama is being too harsh on Israel, because when asked if they are more sympathetic to Israel or the Palestinians, 57% of Americans choose Israel, and only 13% side with the Palestinians.

The Obama administration’s attempts to focus hostile attention on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have failed. Americans have a favorable opinion of Netanyahu by more than two to one: 30% to 14% (the remainder said they have not heard enough to form an opinion, which is not unusual with regard to foreign leaders).

Should President Obama “be a strong supporter of Israel”? 66% of Americans say yes, only 19% say no.

And finally: “Do you think President Obama is a strong supporter of Israel or not?” 42% say he is not, just 34% say he is.

About The John Batchelor Show :

On September 12, 2001, the day after the fall of the Twin Towers, WABC-AM in New York City recruited John Batchelor to go on the air until Osama bin Laden was either killed or captured. John has been on ever since, offering insightful commentary on such issues as the war on terrorism, the presidency, the national and global economies, and defending our civilization. On March 12, 2003, one week before the attack on Iraq, ABC Radio Networks invited John to bring his expertise to syndication. Since then John has reached out nationwide, focusing his concerns on a world at war.

WALTER RUSSELL MEAD, at American Interest Online, writes about the Jihadi mindset, as reflected in recently captured documents from Pakistan.

The rhetoric harks back to a sermon-speech-rant by Osama Bin Laden from April, 2006, posted at outlookindia.com.

(We find it difficult, but necessary, to slog through OBL’s rhetoric, whose grandiosity-verbosity may surpass even that of those world-class blow-hards Fidel Castro (currently on the D-L), and Kin Jong-Il (listed as ‘probable’ for this week’s game against the South Korean Navy).

But it is important to know the Free World’s dedicated enemies.

Here is the ‘lede’ from WRM’s post - The ‘Zionist Hindu Crusader’Alliance Marches On - of 4.22.10 :

Documents captured from radicals and terrorists in Pakistan warn darkly about a new axis of evil in the world: a ‘Zionist Hindu Crusader‘ alliance bringing Israel, India, and the United States together in a war on Islam.

They are wrong about the last part; all three countries want peaceful relations with Islamic countries based on mutual recognition and respect. The alliance isn’t a closed club, and Islamic countries are welcome to join.

Otherwise, however, the radicals have a point. The deepening relations between the United States, India, and Israel are changing the geopolitical geometry of the modern world in ways that will make the lives of fanatical terrorists even more dismal and depressing (not to mention shorter) than they already are.

Israel and the United States are both in a better long term position than many Americans sometimes think; one of the main reasons is an Indian-Israeli connection that most Americans know nothing about.

JewsForSarah.com would like very much to hear from the Hindu American community, particularly in northern New Jersey, where we have heard there are already fruitful contacts between Hindu- and Jewish-American activists. So please contact us.

We are also happy to note that our national Advisory Board (in formation, tba) includes a distinguished scholar of Hindu-Buddhist-Jain, and Jewish, studies.

From Michael Smerconish’s column of 9/7/08 – ‘Head Strong: Nobody’s asking the right question about Palin’ - in the Philadelphia Inquirer:

(This is the corrected link.)

When it comes down to it, Cohen told me, nobody’s really ready to be president – or even mayor of Philadelphia – before they’re elected.

“And the question that should be being asked is not: ‘Is Sarah Palin qualified to be president of the United States on Day One?’ I mean, I hate to say this, I think the answer to that question is probably obviously she isn’t,” Cohen said.

“But that’s not the right question.

“The question is: Does she have the capacity based upon her experience and her background to grow into a position where she could be an effective president if she’s called upon to be president of the United States?’ And I think at a minimum, that’s a much closer question than the question other people are asking.”

This much I think we learned: Sarah Palin has the capacity to be president.

From today’s Investor’s Business Daily:

An unclassified Defense Department report says an Iranian missile could strike the U.S. by 2015. If only we were working as hard to defend ourselves as they are to destroy us.

In any discussion of the Iranian nuclear threat, the assumption is always that Tehran’s target is Israel. Iran’s quite mad president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has pledged to wipe Israel off the map as part of his grand scheme to usher in the age of the 12th Imam. Tehran may have a bigger fish that it wants to fry, namely us.

“With sufficient foreign assistance, Iran could probably develop and test an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of reaching the United States by 2015,” said the 12-page Defense Department report, released Monday, on the ‘Military Power of Iran,’ a copy of which Reuters obtained.”

The P.M.’s personal connection to Jerusalem

In a speech by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in March, 2010, the Prime Minister mentioned a 2,800 year old seal discovered in an excavation in Jerusalem by the Israel Antiquities Authority and currently on loan to the Prime Minister’s office.

“In my office, I have a signet ring that was loaned to me by Israel’s Department of Antiquities . This ring was found next to the Western wall, but it dates back 2,800 years ago, two hundred years after King David declared Jerusalem as our people’s capital.

“This ring is a seal of a Jewish official, and his name is inscribed on it in Hebrew.  The name is: Netanyahu.  Netanyahu Ben-Yoash.  That’s my last name.

“My first name, Benjamin, dates back 1,000 years earlier to Benjamin, the son of Jacob.  One of Benjamin’s brothers was named Shimon, which also happens to be the first name of my good friend, Shimon Peres, the President of Israel.   Nearly 4,000 years ago, Benjamin, Shimon and their ten brothers roamed the hills of Judea.”
